WebJul 14, 2011 · CbadM5. So I'm driving my 06 M5 SMG tonight. I was not in power mode and driving a lil aggressive with the shifter. I was in 3rd gear and all of sudden "transmission malfunction" shows up on heads up display and dash. No loss of power. I slowed down and push the stick into auto mode. The warning went away. Car seemed to be fine. WebNov 3, 2013 · When you use launch control, it drops the clutch at high RPM's and then feathers the clutch for optimal wheel spin. Both of which isn't great for the clutch. I used to use LC about once or twice a month in my E60 M5 and my clutch started to slip at around 40,000mi. That was with an SMG paired with a V10. So.. just don't abuse the feature.
